Hands on Your Dog

During veterinary visits and grooming, your puppy will be handled in a variety of ways. Help them feel comfortable with this by practicing within their comfort zone ahead of time.

Pet your puppy with long strokes from the base of their head to the tip of their tail. If your puppy is still comfortable, run your hands down your puppy’s legs. Look in your puppy’s ears, eyes, and teeth. Practice holding their paws, and touch their toes and toenails. Pet your puppy on their side and belly.

At any point, if your puppy becomes uncomfortable or scared, stop. Slow down and go at your puppy’s pace.
